Maryland Circuit Court decisions are appealed to the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland, an intermediate appellate court, or, in certain circumstances, the Court of Appeals, the highest court in the state. ln the District of Columbia, appeals are made to the Court of Appeals, the highest court in the district. ln both jurisdictions, highly technical rules govern which cases are appropriate for appellate review and detail the time frame and requirements for entering the appellate system. Our attorneys have experience drafting appellate briefs, fashioning oral arguments at the appellate level, and navigating the newly enacted appellate Civil Mediation Program, a confidential mediated process that helps parties discuss and resolve their disputes without further litigation.
